It work was made for surreal competition by NVArt company. I really like surrealism, so I was painting it work with pleasure.

AURORA W.I.P.

Step 1 - The sketch

My Character Astrologer Aurora not only believes in astrology but she predicts and even influences events in her cosy fantasy world. U may agree with me, that it is much more interesting to create your own future, than waiting for someone’s execution of predictions.
I execute sketch with a pencil on a paper. «Alive» stroke is always more expressive than a cyber one. (pic 01)

After that I do the trick as I usually do: I import my scanned sketch in Photoshop and edit with Levels (Ctrl +L) for getting clear image. Next, I set the sketch layer in Multiply mode and
add 2 empty layers under the layer with my dear astrologer, one for lights and the other for the background. Actually we always have the layer background but it locked and it is not very comfortable.
Layer background I fill with a brown color and start working on the shape of figure. My main objective now is to add volume in highlights and lighter tones (pic 1)

Step 2 – Colorizing

Now it is time to start working with a color. First it would be good to take some colors for creating color tone of entire picture. It might be done somewhere in the corner of canvas in a separate layer. After that my brown background starts to fill color spots (with my help of course). Now it is important just to decide on color scheme of the whole picture. (pic 2)

Step 3 – Painting
On a next stage I usually start work on details, especially on eyes. I don’t know why but I always start to draw with eyes (It’s my own way). (pic 3) Here it is a lot of work! Usually for painting I use brushes with spatter of Photoshop brush set or make my own. I won’t tell you about long hard work on my image with traditional ways of painting but tell about nontraditional ones.
For example I need realistic texture of eye. I make the picture with somebody’s eye or find it in e-net, put it in new layer on a top layer list and set him in overlay mode. Next I little transform it with a transform tool (Ctrl+T). (pic4) and merge with main layer. Now I can make new layer for continue to making highlights and so on. That is very comfortable to do each separate thing in a new layer. (pic5) Same way you can use for making all things that should have rich structure. But if you set imagination on a first place you can do what you want.

I've written this Image for quest-game. I know that girl's head too big but I like to distort anatomical proportion.

Фотоохота. Человек пьющий

Фотокамеру я ношу с собой всегда. Жертвами моих съемок становятся порой на первый взгляд, совершенно невинные сюжеты. Возможно секрет их интересности для меня заключается в том что на самом деле я вижу не то что получается на фото а абстрактную картину, подобную "черному квадрату",
В этом сюжете черный квадрат еще и что-то пьет.

I want to show you my fantasy book cover illustration. It was quiet challenging for me to do illustration about relationship between man and woman in space :) And I decided to execute it in allegoric style. There is more of space for the personal associations of reader.
The author was satisfied not too much because he saw his book little different. But publisher adopted my point of view and took this picture… for another book.

Nostalgia about cats

When I was a student, I used to drawing people in cats incarnation. (It was my little invention).
I did it just on the streets of my city. My crazy idea was quiet helpful for me and I made a little money for my student’s sandwiches.


Идея рисовать людей в инкарнации котов возникла достаточно давно, и, на сколько я знаю, никто этого не делал раньше . И позже, тоже. Может быть потому что это слишком уж не глобалистическая идея, Макдональдсами она подхвачена не была и потому по сей день остается эксклюзивом.

Раньше, еще будучи студентом, я рисовал прямо на улице. Уличные художники, рисовавшие портреты и шаржи сначала хихикали над моей вывеской и кое кто из них даже сам рисовался у меня. Вообщем то началось все с того, что первое пиво я заработал, рисуя соседей по портретам. Но потом моими котами народ заинтересовался и коллеги портретисты начали на меня поглядывать косо, мол всю рыбу им своими котами распугал. Но я не слишком из за этого расстраивался. Два дня в неделю, как часы, я сидел под старинным фонарем со стопкой бумаги и восковой пастелью. Что бы коллеги не обижались, приходилось их угощать пивом. Народ рисовавшийся у меня был самый разнообразный. От откровенных фриков до серьезных бизнесменов без тени улыбки на лице. Запомнилась одна бабушка, которая умоляла нарисовать ее кота в образе человека. «Он такой умный, все понимает»: говорила она, приносила его фотографии Ну прямо как в анекдоте. Но я почему то сдрейфил. Побоялся, что если я ее кота в человека реинкарнирую, бедная совсем с катушек съедет. Вот что значит одиночество. Как говорится, «позвоните своим родителям» Потом наступала осень. Сидеть было холодно, а переходить на водку не хотелось и с уличных художников я ушел. Теперь вот тут сижу, в теплом интернете.

Alice and the Glass Bird

There is my new picture about Alice. I know that girl executed too expressive, but it was interesting to me to make some distortions for this character. First was background. It was painted for casual quest video game ("Jaibo-games co".). Then idea with Alice came.

Однажды уж я брался за тему Алисы. Да вот решил снова вернуться. В этой работе намешено всего, в том числе и карандашная и акварельная графика. Возможно стилистически это работу немного разбивает, но и драйву, мне кажется, от этого больше.
Это уже Алиса другая, не Кэрроловская, уже побитая изрядно жизнью в стране чудес.
